last night, I went to a gig for the first time in a couple of months... and to The Metro for the first time in about 2 years. (Geez, that place hasn't had many bands I really like in ages!) One thing that was prevalent was there was a lot of grandpas. I don't mean grandpas as in Hipster Bingo (http://www.philosophistry.com/archives/2004/12/001165.html). These people looked like they had children who had children. It does make sense since Severed Heads have been around a long time and this was a 33rd year anniversary tour for The Residents. Severed Heads were really good. Thankfully they largely kept their mouths shut. My supervisor said that one of the dude was a tad bitter that they never became huge internationally. This was the 5th time I've seen Chicks on Speed. Sadly, they only got 45 minutes but they did a good job of cramming their set full of songs that most of their fans loved. I was really hoping they'd play "For All The Boys In The World" but they stuck to other tried-and-tested songs that I didn't like so much! I really miss Melissa Logan. She's a hottie... on pregnancy leave. (For Megaman:) Not the best picture: Unlike... The Residents were the weirdest thing I've seen in a long time. They were very arty and entertaining. Behind me, some guy was talking about how he liked acid and kept saying "I don't know what the f#@k is going on!" throughout the show. I felt the same way but it was mesmerising. The thing was a very alternative play or something. The guitarist was great. He had a great sound like he had escaped from the Top Gun soundtrack but also did some jazz-inspired stuff. More pics: www.smh.com.au/photogallery/2005/03/09/1110316087829.html
